The University of Zurich (UZH) is advancing international education through its participation in the Una Europa alliance. As the first Swiss university to join a European Universities Alliance in 2022, UZH has been fostering innovative collaborations with leading European universities to jointly develop cutting-edge educational formats and mobility opportunities.
As part of this initiative, UZH will launch its first participation in two international joint bachelor’s programs: As mobility partner in the Una Europa Joint Bachelor of Arts in European Studies, UZH will welcome its first cohort in spring 2025. The second program, the Una Europa Joint Bachelor in Sustainability, is planned for fall 2025. UZH will participate in this program as degree-awarding partner. These joint bachelor programs provide students with valuable opportunities to gain international experience, develop interdisciplinary perspectives and intercultural skills. Gabriele Siegert, UZH Vice President Education and Student Affairs and member of the Una Europa Teaching & Learning Strategy Group notes that through these joint BA programs, students will gain insights from academics at leading European universities on complex and central issues of our society: “This education provides students with the best foundation for contributing to the solution of these societal challenges.” The jointly developed teaching and learning formats within Una Europa further foster collaborations and attract top global talent, enriching the academic community and driving innovation.
The Una Europa Alliance, through its ambitious Una.Futura project, enhances Switzerland’s global academic presence. Elisabeth Stark, UZH Vice President Research and Una Europa Board of Directors member, underscores that Una Europa is not only one of the most successful and visible European Universities Alliances, but also a very good match of UZH’s focus areas. Being a member in Una Europa also plays a crucial role in advancing the international profile of our university: “By integrating research and innovation, Una.Futura not only enhances learning and mobility opportunities for students but also amplifies its impact, reinforcing UZH’s commitment to the European Higher Education and Research Area”, explains Una.Futura Senior Project Lead and Co-Senior Local Lead, Valentina Manzato.
