The JET Programme offers young foreign university graduates to work at schools as Assistant Language Teacher, in local authorities offices (or related organisations) as Coordinator for International Relations, or as sports coach Sports Exchange Advisor (SEA) for one year (extension possible). Swiss applicants can in general apply to ALT and CIR positions. Please note however that positions might be not available each year.
- Assistant Language Teacher will be engaged in language instruction. ALTs are placed mainly in local boards of education or publicly run primary, junior high and senior high schools. There may be a very limited number of cases in which the participants are placed in private primary, junior high and senior high schools through the prefectural offices or designated city offices. Main duties will be assistance the following points: classes taught by Japanese teachers, preparation of materials, language training of Japanese teachers, foreign language conversation training, foreign language speech contests and more.
- Coordinator for International Relations will be engaged in internationalisation activities. CIRs are placed in the offices of local authorities or related organisations.
Main duties will be: Assistance in projects related to international activities carried out by the Contracting Organisation. Such activities may include: editing, translating and compiling brochures into a foreign language; assisting in planning, designing and implementing international exchange programs including international economic exchange program; assisting in hosting official guests from abroad and interpreting at events for overseas visitors or for local foreign community residents.
