The US-based University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) has officially joined the global univesity network Universitas 21 (U21) network as of 1 October 2024. The U21 network now comprises more than 20 countries spanning six continents. This further strengthens the global reach and cooperation potential of the diverse network.
The University of Zurich became a member of U21 in 2017, making it the only Swiss university in the network. The U21 membership allows UZH to promote increased student and staff mobility, strengthen connections with esteemed international partners, and engage in collaborative research on a global scale.
Katja Durkin, Head of Global Affairs at UZH and U21 Senior Leader, says: “Both UIUC and UZH are deeply committed to addressing global challenges through sustainability, innovation, and Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI). The U21 network provides an invaluable platform for advancing shared priorities in education, research, and societal impact. By fostering collaboration within this global community, we aim to drive progress toward the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and strengthen internationalization. We look forward to partnering with UIUC, whose dedication to these principles aligns with the core values upheld by all U21 members.”
