Una Europa General Assembly Plenary Session: One Earth, One Future

We invite you to join the Una Europa General Assembly Plenary Session. This session will showcase pioneering scientific work in the field of One Health within the Una Europa alliance and beyond.

Researchers fromUna Europa partner universities, particularly those involved with the SSC One Health, along with other leading One Health experts, will discuss and present their work. Through a variety of formats, including presentations and panel discussions, they will explore the opportunities and challenges in international, interdisciplinary research using One Health literacy to address critical global issues.

The event kicks off at 10:30 with a Welcome Note by UZH President Michael Schaepman in room KOL-G-201 (Aula) of the UZH main building, located atRämistrasse 71, 8006 Zurich. Various One Health experts will share their insights and projects, followed by a panel discussion. The session will conclude at 12:15.

Speakers & Panelists

  • Eveline van Rijswijk

    Eveline van Rijswijk, with an academic background in political science, history, and philosophy from Leiden University, brings dynamic engagement to public discourse. Her career has focused on enriching conversations through science communication and historical analysis. As a former editor-in-chief and presenter for the University of the Netherlands, she created educational videos and hosted "Focus" on NPO Radio 1, where she explored history and science. In her one-woman show "De Première," she theatrically criticizes Dutch politics. Known for her eloquent speeches and language columns on "Spraakmakers," she continues to challenge and inspire audiences across the country.
  • Prof. Dr. Jan Fehr

    Head of the Department of Public & Global Health
    Professor of Global Health & Mobility at the University of Zurich

    Jan Fehr is also the Chief Physician of the Centre for Travel Medicine, the world's only WHO Collaboration Centre for Traveller's Health, and Switzerland's largest travel clinic, with nearly 30,000 consultations annually. A specialist in internal medicine and infectious diseases, Fehr has extensive clinical research experience, focusing on HIV, tuberculosis, viral hepatitis, vaccinology, and emerging infectious diseases. He collaborates with Global South partners and serves as a One Health delegate for UZH. Additionally, he is a member of the Confederate Commission for Vaccination Issues, the Swiss Expert Committee on Travel Medicine, the Federal Commission for Sexually Transmitted Infections, and the Swiss Chagas Network.
  • Dr. med. Andrew Kambugu

    Makerere University

    Andrew Kambugu is an Adjunct Associate Professor at the University of Minnesota, USA, and an Honorary Senior Lecturer at Makerere University of Health Sciences. He holds a Master's degree in Internal Medicine and has received specialty training in Infectious Diseases. Dr. Kambugu has over 14 years of experience in HIV clinical care and programming and has made significant research contributions, particularly in HIV treatment outcomes and opportunistic infections. He is active in several health organizations, reflecting his commitment to global health research and practice.
  • Prof. Dr. M.D. John Lambert

    Professor at University College Dublin

    John Lambert has 25 years of experience in Infectious Diseases covering HIV, Hepatitis C, and other disease areas. He trained in the USA and the UK and worked for six years in Baltimore at the Johns Hopkins Institute and the University of Maryland Institute of Human Virology, where he developed his skills in vaccinology, HIV, and Lyme and co-infections. He has consultant specialty certifications in adult and pediatric infectious diseases, general medicine and pediatrics, and sexual health. He was head of the National Isolation Unit of Ireland, managing all emerging infections. He is the only infectious diseases physician in Ireland managing Lyme and co-infections and has developed a private practice to see such patients.
  • Prof. Elisabeth Stark

    Elisabeth Stark holds the position of full professor in Romance linguistics, specializing in French. She completed her education in Romance Linguistics and teacher training for German and French at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität Munich, earning her PhD later. She served in various academic roles at LMU, including senior teaching and research assistant after her habilitation. She briefly held a substitute chair at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin before accepting a full professorship at Freie Universität Berlin, where she also served as Vice Dean of Studies. Her academic focus includes the structure of nominal expressions, language variation in digital communications, and syntax in Romance languages.
  • Prof. Utpal Tatu

    Chairman at the Department of Biochemistry of the Indian Institute of Science

    Utpal Tatu is a prominent researcher at the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, specializing in Global Health and the One Health approach, focusing on neglected diseases. His work, featured in Science and Nature Medicine, aims at improving diagnosis and treatment for infections in humans and animals. An early advocate of One Health, he delivered a TED talk on the subject in 2013 and serves on the One Health Cell board of Bangalore City Municipal Corporation. Prof. Tatu has led numerous international collaborations, received prestigious awards, and serves on editorial boards of notable journals. He founded Equine Biotech and contributed significantly to COVID-19 management in India.
  • Prof. Dr. med. Dr. phil. Andrea Winkler

    Co-Director of the Centre for Global Health at the Technical University of Munich
    Professor and Founding Director of the Centre for Global Health at the University of Oslo

    Andrea Sylvia Winkler is a renowned neuroscientist and a specialist neurologist. As co-director of the Center for Global Health at TMU and founding director of the Center for Global Health at the University of Oslo, she leads groundbreaking research on global brain health and poverty-related diseases. With a professorship in Global One Health and a visiting professorship at Harvard Medical School, she spearheads initiatives on neglected tropical diseases, global neurology, and zoonotic diseases. Prof. Winkler chairs the Lancet One Health Commission, pioneering collaboration in global health.
