Deepening collaborations

UZH has a long history of working with French universities on research and education. These collaborations are especially prominent within European university networks, where UZH actively engages with its French counterparts to drive cross-border academic initiatives.

As a member of the League of European Research Universities (LERU), UZH works closely with Université Paris-Saclay, Sorbonne University, and the University of Strasbourg. In collaboration with these and other LERU partners, UZH actively contributes to shaping EU policy by developing and promoting shared perspectives on research, innovation and higher education. UZH also works with Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne through Una Europa, an alliance of 11 leading European universities, which focuses on fostering interdisciplinary and innovative approaches to higher education across Europe.

Key figures on UZH and France

The depth of UZH’s collaboration with French institutions is reflected in several key areas:

  • Co-publications: Researchers from UZH and French universities have co-authored nearly 6,000 publications over the last 5 years, underscoring the robust academic synergy that has grown steadily.

  • Staff and students: Nearly 200 staff members of French nationality, including 10 professors, teach, conduct research, or work in other capacities at UZH, along with over 100 degree-seeking students from France. Together, they enrich the university’s international and diverse academic environment.

  • Student mobility: UZH has established student exchange programs with over 30 French universities, providing students with valuable opportunities for academic and cultural exchange.

These statistics underscore the increasing academic engagement between UZH and France, showing the important role these collaborations play in advancing research and education across borders.
