Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme (2026/27)
The Research Grants Council of Hong Kong is launching the Seventeenth Round of the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme (the “Scheme”) for 2026/27 academic year intake. The Scheme established in 2009 aims to attract top international students to pursue PhD studies in Hong Kong’s world-class research universities.
- Type: International fellowship programme for new full-time PhD candidates
- Aim: Attracting outstanding global talent to pursue doctoral studies at Hong Kong’s research universities
- Application for: New full-time PhD applicants to any of the eight UGC-funded universities in Hong Kong (open to all nationalities, backgrounds, and levels of prior work experience)
- Fields: Sciences, Medicine, Engineering and Technology, Humanities, Social Sciences and Business Studies
- Funding: monthly stipend: HK$28,400 (approx. USD 3,640), annual conference and research-related travel allowance: HK$14,200 (approx. USD 1,820)
Duration: Up to 3 years
Total fellowships available: 400
- Selection criteria: Academic excellence (primary criterion), research ability and potential, communication and interpersonal skills, leadership abilities, review by one of two selection panels depending on the proposed field of study
- Application Deadline: 1 December 2025 (12:00 noon, Hong Kong Time)
